Strategy & research for products that can't afford to be wrong.

Tooling, certification and inventory make hardware mistakes expensive. skeelx front-loads the evidence — market, users, physics, cost — so the money meets a product that deserves it.

who this is for

Before the capital moves.

Founders deciding whether a product is worth building. Product and R&D leaders framing the next platform before committing a roadmap to it. Boards and investors who need an independent read on a hardware program before the round closes. If the next decision is expensive and the evidence is thin, this practice exists for that moment.

what we do

The offerings.

Opportunity Framing

A structured pass over the market, the technology and the constraint set before money meets tooling. We map competitor moves, adjacent-category signals and technical headroom, then frame where a product can actually win. You walk away with a framed opportunity, explicit success criteria and a kill-list of directions not worth funding — often the most valuable page in the pack.

User & Field Research

Products for labs, clinics, factories and field crews fail in ways focus groups never predict. We observe real operators in real environments — gowning procedures, glove thickness, noise floors, shift pressure — and convert what we see into design requirements with evidence attached. You walk away with a requirements set your engineers can argue with, and footage that ends internal debates.

Feasibility & Technical Diligence

Can it be built, by whom, at what cost and risk? We pressure-test architectures, estimate BOM envelopes, identify the two or three physics problems that will dominate the program, and give a straight answer. Also available as independent diligence for boards and investors. You walk away with an architecture recommendation, a risk register ranked by consequence, and numbers labelled honestly as estimates.

Service & Experience Design

The product is also everything around it: unboxing, installation, calibration, consumables, servicing, support, end of life. We blueprint that whole life and design the touchpoints that make ownership feel engineered rather than endured. You walk away with a service blueprint, prioritised touchpoint designs and the operational requirements each one implies.

Definition & Roadmap

The bridge between insight and build: a product definition tight enough to quote against and honest enough to survive engineering. Where a family is coming, we design the platform logic — what's shared, what varies, what the second product inherits for free. You walk away with a PRD, a platform map and a staged roadmap with decision gates.

how it runs

Usually a Discovery Sprint.

Most strategy work starts as a fixed-fee 2–4 week sprint: one Frame loop run hard, ending in artifacts you can act on rather than a workshop afterglow. Larger programs keep the practice engaged as the evidence layer for every later gate.

  • Framed opportunity with explicit success criteria — and the kill-list
  • Field-research evidence pack: requirements, footage, quotes
  • Feasibility read: architecture options, BOM envelope, ranked risk register
  • PRD and staged roadmap with decision gates your board can hold you to

straight answers

Asked often.

How long does a discovery sprint take?

Two to four weeks depending on field access, fixed fee, ending in the artifacts above. If we think you don't need one, we'll say so on the first call.

We already have research. Will you use it?

Yes. We audit what exists, keep what holds and fill the gaps — re-running research for the invoice is exactly the kind of theatre we refuse.

Do you do investor and board diligence?

Yes — independent design and engineering diligence with written findings and ranked risks. We take no success fee and hold no position, so the answer is straight.

works with

Where it usually leads.

Framed opportunities become industrial design briefs, feasibility reads become engineering programs, and service blueprints shape the software around the product. Sector depth: medical devices, robotics, energy.
